Local restaurants
Hôtel Duo’s Marais location means that you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to eating. Restaurant Le Georges (Centre Pompidou, 19 rue Beaubourg; +33 (0)1 44 78 47 99) may not have the best food and service in Paris, but its position on the sixth floor of the Pompidou Centre means that it offers some of the city’s most enviable views. Created by the people behind Momo and Sketch in London, Restaurant Andy Walhoo (69 rue des Gravilliers; +33 (0)1 42 71 20 38) is where a formidable fashion crowd come to sit on upturned paint cans and devour high-end Moroccan cuisine. Ze Kitchen Galerie (4 rue des Grand Augustins; +33 (0)1 44 32 00 32) is a contemporary bistro in a loft-like space that serves up creative international cuisine.
Local bars
La Belle Hortense (31 rue Vieille du Temple; +33 (0)1 48 04 71 60), named after the novel by Jacques Roubaud, is a literary salon-like bar that harks back to the days of the existentialists. Cocktails and Colette, anyone?
Nightlife
Follow the jazz cats to Duc des Lombards at 42 rue des Lombards (+33 (0)1 42 33 22 88). This darkly lit, recently renovated jazz club-cum-eatery regularly draws some of the genre’s top performers. A jam session kicks off the three-set musical mayhem, which often features special guests plucked from the crowd of chilled-out punters. In the restaurant upstairs, a Michelin-starred chef serves delicious bites, on bamboo leaves no less, so as to limit mealtime noise during performances.
Worth getting out of bed for
The Musée National Picasso on rue de Thorigny is close by. The wonderful Musée Rodin on rue de Varenne, on the Left Bank, is also within walking distance of Hôtel Duo.
