The Guestbook

Amazing hotel and spa, the perfect hideaway in one of the most picturesque areas of the Cotswolds. One tip: we stayed on the Friday night and the spa gets pretty busy after about 5.30 in the evening, so if you can, get there beforehand and bag one of the loungers by the pool.

I would recommend room 15, with its views over the garden from the small balcony where you can sit and enjoy your complimentary afternoon tea or champagne. We took a walk to Broadway Tower setting off late morning and indulged in afternoon tea on our balcony afterwards. Great varied scenery en route, as well as the promise of sustenance at the little shop in the base of the tower, which was very welcome as we were there during somewhat of a heat wave.

There are several delightful walks through the Cotswold countryside from the door of the hotel, with the opportunity for pausing for refreshment or a good lunch at excellent village pubs. For example, the Ebrington Arms in Ebrington is a friendly place, which attracts locals and passers by. The only mistake we made was to set off after a wonderful CH breakfast, and as it is only an hour and a half's walk, we weren't ready for lunch. After a refreshing pint in the sunny garden, we headed back to Chipping Campden (about an hour on our circular walk), having worked up an appetite for a tasty platter at the Noel Arms.

Beautiful Chipping Campden, so peaceful. Great deli just down the main street from the hotel, ideal for pre-meal nibbles. The hotel's spa is well worth a visit, nice pool and great al fresco dining/drinks area in the gardens. Restaurant food quality very high, and nice casual ambience, the breakfast in particular was superb, try the smoked salmon scrambled eggs. Perfection.

This was our second visit and this time we were given one of the cottage rooms to stay in, which was fabulous. Spacious yet cosy, with lots of windows overlooking the gardens. Huge oak beams. Giant bed with a TV on a swing-out arm to bring it closer, and complimentary DVDs at reception. Wonderful bathroom with a TV to watch whilst you soak, and a proper power shower in a separate cubicle. All this is just a short walk to the spa, pool, sauna, reclining loungers – great for sipping a cocktail whilst reading. Chipping Campden is utterly charming and there are miles of beautiful walks on its doorstep.

Stanton, near Broadway is a beautiful village. It's only a short - 15 - 20 minute drive from Chipping Campden. The Mount Inn is a glorious country pub with lovely food and proper open fires. We had a great lunch there on Saturday. The walks around there are spectacular and the views out over the Severn Valley into Wales are fabulous. Take an OS map and get walking!

Hear, hear to all the other guestbookers discussing Cotswold House, it is a fantastic place. Our junior suite was sensational, large but cosy thanks to fab gas fire, beautiful bathroom, pillow menu and they have now elevated Hicks from bistro to restaurant status and the food is excellent. Chipping Campden is the 'perfect' (note I avoided the ubiquitous, 'quintessential'!) English village, all honey-coloured stone, air filled with wood-burning smoke, flood lit church, other lovely eateries, Robert Welch, gift shops etc. Winchcombe is not too far away, with Wesley House a great place for lunch and then if you can tear yourself away from Cotswold House there is Le Champignon Sauvage (www.lechampignonsauvage.co.uk) in Cheltenham. The restaurant has two Michelin stars and a chef/owner that has shunned the celebrity TV celebrity circuit, producing menus that are quite superb.

Try the bath in Room 12!! Huge egg shaped thing imported from Italy. Cost £13,000!!!! Easily sits 2, could accomodate 4. Lie back and watch the tv built into the wall with champagne on trolley next to it.

Awesome :-)

For an alternative to eating in at Cotswold House why not walk a few yards up the raod in the village to "Michaels". This is a Mediterrean restaurant, good friendly service, good value and a menu that temps the taste buds.

The hotel was superb, very convienent for all the wonderful Cotsworld villages.
The rooms in the hotel has everything you could need in a bedroom., It is also the beginning of The Cotsworld Way walk, so start to off at a very nice hotel in the middle of the town is great.

No sorry,we ate both times in the hotel and very nice it was too!
I know it's not food, but the Robert Welch shop is really worth a visit. A Cotswold family business with lovely cutlery, bowls, kitchen utensils and more, all beautifully set out. The ladies were really helpful and we ended up taking home some pressies which were a huge success. It's located just down the high street if you turn right out of the hotel.

Also, just a couple of things to say about the hotel, which overall was lovely, but our room overlooked the front market square and was really noisy!. Also spa area didn't want you to have a robe unless you were having a treatment. Quite cramped around pool when hotel busy. I do appreciate they are restricted due to size of building, but if people hope to relax in that area,it is small.

I stayed in Cotswold House this December for Christmas, and it was an amazing hotel. We enjoyed the Temple Spa which recently opened and which I can highly recommend. The hotel has a pool and a nice hamman and sauna. I also enjoyed dinner one evening in the hotel restaurant, Juliana's. The menu was traditional British fare with a gastronomic twist. Each day they delivered breakfast to our room at no extra cost and it was delightful. The hotel is nicely centred in the town of Chipping Campden, with great local restaurants and pubs nearby.

I recommend the Bell Inn, on Moreton-in-Marsh's high street (+44 (0)1608 651688), for a great meal and a warm fire. I would make reservations, as they get full during lunch. Michael's Mediterranean Restaurant, also on the high street (+44 (0)1386 840826), serves delicious Greek food and has an excellent wine list.

A couple of doors down from Cotswold House is Michael's Greek/Med bistro (+44 (0)1386 840826). The food and ambiance is fantastic. Though we got a table without booking (having arrived early), calling ahead is advisable as the restaurant was fully booked when we were there.

Bennetts Fine Wines on the high street (a few doors down from Cotswold House) is a real treasure trove, with a curated selection of New and Old World wines, available to buy by the bottle and case (they also deliver to any address in the UK). We stopped by on a rainy autumn day and picked up an excellent value Côtes du Rhône, which we happily uncorked and imbibed in the comfort of the hotel.

We loved staying at Cotswold House. The breakfast in bed was sensational – tailored exactly to our tastes! I would recommend horseback riding with Jill Carenza. Only 20 minutes' drive from the hotel and the group hack is a great experience for all levels. Beautiful scenery and a great way to take in the countryside!

Heather, BlackSmith, stayed on 27 Feb 2009

Cotswold House is fantastic! We had a perfect winter break in this beautiful, luxurious hotel. Cotswold House has all of the style and comfort that anyone could wish for in the middle of beautiful Chipping Campden. We had a great meal at the Eight Bells, just up the road from the hotel. It is a traditional pub with fine ales and wines, but also fantastic food – the best pub food we have tasted, a roaring fire and great hospitality!

Robert, BlackSmith, stayed on 21 Dec 2008

Brosh (www.broshrestaurant.co.uk) is well worth the taxi ride! This is a world-class restaurant serving middle eastern food. Green Dragon pub is less than 3/10 of a mile up the road, great food and atmosphere. Even walkable (with torch!)

David, BlackSmith, stayed on 7 Nov 2008

We stopped at the Hinds Head (+44 (0)1865 820204) at Witney Road on the way up there! Great pub and food, down the road from the Fat Duck of course...

Elizabeth, GoldSmith, stayed on 1 Nov 2008

If you are travelling with little ones, Barbara the babysitter is wonderful! The hotel arranged for her to come and sit for ourthree babies whilst we all had dinner downstairs. We returned to peacefully sleeping children who had all been well looked after!

Gemma, BlackSmith, stayed on 1 Nov 2008

This was our first Mr & Mrs Smith experience. The hotel was lovely and the village itself was stunning. We enjoyed just relaxing with a drink in the gardens and the hotel's food was also excellent. For a more lively night out, we went to The Eight Bells Inn just along the road in Church Street (+44 (0)1386 840371; www.eightbellsinn.co.uk). Food was excellent as was the company – great atmosphere. Just go along with no set plans and relax.

Christopher, BlackSmith, stayed on 27 Aug 2008

Cotswold House is lovely, but if you fancy simple food, well cooked with friendly service which is also extremely good value, try the Kings just next door to the hotel.
