The Guestbook
You drive through the gates of Chewton Glen and immediately start to relax. Not only is this a stunning hotel and location, the staff make any time you spend here truly memorable and utterly enjoyable. We got married here a year ago (an absolutely perfect day), so thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate our first anniversary – and it was! Not only did we get upgraded, but when we got to our fabulous room we found a celebration balloon, a card, a bottle of champagne and chocolates!! The staff and service was – as ever – attentive, but not overdone. The spa is not to be missed and the food in the restaurant is definitely worth experiencing. We did eat out at Pebbles Beach, and would recommend it, but probably more of a summer venue than a winter one. To be honest it is definitely an expensive treat, but it's more than worth it. I can't wait for my second anniversary to go back to Chewton Glen again!

We tried to get a table for lunch at Pebble Beach, which is close to Chewton Glen and has a terrace with sea views, for a Sunday summer lunch, but it was fully booked. We could only get a table at an inconvenient time. Next time we'll make sure we book well in advance.

The tasting menu at Chewton Glen is unbelievable, and if you like a spot of tennis then don't overlook their courts, they are top class.

For a good gastro-style pub, try The Three Tuns in Bransgore, just a few miles from the hotel.

The walk to the beach is lovely – it leads along the river, through the woods, and takes about 25 mins. Or try the outdoor pool, as even in the colder months it's heated!

I would recommend pre-booking a local bike ride (don’t be put off when you arrive if there aren’t many bikes on display – loads more available). We were given a coast ride route that can take you all the way to Lymington (22 mile round trip). For a bit of variety (and stay next to the seas) I would follow the route to Milford on Sea, then turn right off the main road (which would otherwise take you to Lymington) and head down to Keyhaven (following signs towards Hurst Castle), there is a big loop along the coast, partly walking, and includes access to Hurst Castle. Hurst Castle juts into the seas and creates the narrowest part of the Solent. On the way back try walking along the cliff top from Milford on Sea rather than inland on the B road. Journey time: approx 3 hours

I recommend Pebble Beach restaurant on the beach – good value fish and seafood.
