Local restaurants
Cosme Velho’s a leafy, residential area so you’ll have to forage further afield for fine dining. Luckily Lucio is close to being a Michelin guide in human form and will readily dispense recommendations. We like Zuka’s blend of Asian and Italian cuisines on trendy Leblon’s Rua Dias Ferreira (+55 21 3205 7154).
Nightlife
A two-minute taxi ride away on Rua das Laranjeiras, Hideaway (+55 21 2285 0921) is a local favourite. As well as serving some excellent pizza, it runs regular samba nights, and often hosts performances from Brazialian singers and musicians.
Worth getting out of bed for
The guesthouse is about 15 minutes' walk from the centre of Rio and just 300m from the train station at Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer), from where you can access all the attractions of the city.
