Every hotel is visited personally by us prior to review and given the Smith seal of approval. As soon as our anonymous reviewers have returned from this Budapest boutique hotel and unpacked their limited-edition modern art prints, a full account of their luxury city break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Brody House in Budapest…
When you first arrive in the elegant square and press the discreet buzzer at Brody House’s front door, you’d be forgiven for thinking the hotel – a rejuvenated 19th-century townhouse flanked by particularly palatial homes and a former parliament building – was someone’s house. By the time you’ve gained entry and wandered up the grand staircase to the communal spaces on the upper floors, however, you’ll have been wowed by the detail that’s gone into making it a showcase for creativity.
From the building itself to almost everything inside, Brody House is an inventive recycler’s dream. There are old doors turned into headboards and beds incorporating former attic rafters, and the walls expose old paint and wallpapers seemingly pasted long ago. In the guest rooms themselves, the design is led by the modern art collections exhibited in each one: each artist has created a unique room. It’s a shabby-chic bastion of boho treasures that you won’t find anywhere else.
