The Guestbook

Very nice hotel, even better than expected. Extremely well situated for those who, like us, love Soho and East village. We got upgraded to a superior Deluxe on our arrival. The baby bed was set up and our bed was really comfy. We had a wonderful time there for a great, affordable price. We usually go the Mercer but we might change our habits thanks to Mr & Mrs Smith.

For a great lunch, or even just a glass of wine and a delicious Italian snack at the bar 'on the run', or just to buy the most amazing selection of all kinds of delicious Italian food do try Eataly (+ 1 212 229 2560; eatalyny.com), which is very vibrant and smart but also friendly with great service. You'll find it at 200 Fifth Avenue. And for dinner, we were taken to several hip restaurants by our young Brooklyn friends but the best was The Fat Radish (+1 212 300 4053; thefatradishnyc.com) at 17 Orchard Street in Soho – great atmosphere, great music and vibe and great food. Their beetroot and goats' cheese crumble and monkfish vindaloo. For great shopping, we loved Opening Ceremony, at 35 Howard Street, again in Soho...

We were in NY for our honeymoon and ate at some fabulous restaurants, all booked by my new husband! For a fantastic casual brunch, head to Balthazar's on Broadway (+1 212 965 1414; www.balthazarny.com). For something really special, go to the River Cafe under Brooklyn Bridge (+1 718 522 5200; www.rivercafe.com) – very hard to beat! Gilt at the New York Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue (+1 212 891 8100; www.giltnewyork.com) is definitely the place to go to for cocktails and dinner at the weekend – amazing!

Raoul's restaurant a five-minute walk away (Prince & Sullivan) is an excellent spot for dinner with a cool Soho crowd and a mean line in steak au poivre

A must for drinks on a sunny/warm afternoon - 240 on 5th. Just take the lift to the top floor. Its a night club in the evening, but opens the roof garden during the day for drinks in the sun. Restaurants that are a must are Spice Market and Buddakan in meat packing district.
