Atmosphere

The rather understated entrance reveals a fantastic riverside restaurant serving excellent French and Savoyard food. Book a table with a view over the river.

Hameau Albert 1er

The best restaurant in town by far, with two Michelin stars, this gastronomic extravaganza is one of those unforgettable experiences you can justify to yourself (or the bank manager) once in a blue moon.

La Cabane des Praz

Right next to the golf course outside Chamonix, this is a very chic and stylish restaurant. Lunch on the terrace in the summer or next to the fire in winter is just perfect. The menu’s somewhat eclectic, ranging from Savoyarde favourites to Italian dishes and Dublin Bay prawns; all of it’s delicious.

Bistrot des Sports

This is a popular place for a drink. All that pine panelling means there’s no chance you won’t realise you're in the Alps.

MBC

This Canadian-run micro-brewery has good food too but is famed for its Blonde de Chamonix, Granite Pale Ale and Stout des Drus. There’s often live music on Tuesdays and Fridays during the ski season.

The Clubhouse

The food is unfussy, the atmosphere relaxed and the service wonderfully friendly. The steaks and salads are great and the bar is frankly the coolest place in Chamonix.

Satsuki

The Alps and sushi may seem like a strange combination but this is a great little Japanese place that does tasty set lunches.
