Planes

The Clare Valley is a 2.5-hour drive north of South Australia’s capital city, Adelaide, which has a shiny new international airport (www.aal.com.au). Domestic flights from all other homeland capitals and many regional centres fly into Adelaide too. There’s also a sealed airstrip at Jamestown, just north of the Clare Valley, for charter planes sized up to DC-3 (and believe us, that’s hefty).

Automobiles

The Clare Valley is long and skinny so you’ll need your motor to traverse the cellar doors and townships. Having keys to your own steed will help you discover back-road vineyards off the tourist trail. Hire a car at Adelaide airport or in Adelaide itself.
