Getting there
- Planes
- The Clare Valley is a 2.5-hour drive north of South Australia’s capital city, Adelaide, which has a shiny new international airport (www.aal.com.au). Domestic flights from all other homeland capitals and many regional centres fly into Adelaide too. There’s also a sealed airstrip at Jamestown, just north of the Clare Valley, for charter planes sized up to DC-3 (and believe us, that’s hefty).
- Automobiles
- The Clare Valley is long and skinny so you’ll need your motor to traverse the cellar doors and townships. Having keys to your own steed will help you discover back-road vineyards off the tourist trail. Hire a car at Adelaide airport or in Adelaide itself.
