A year is a long time in music. In the 12 months since volume three of ‘Mr & Mrs Smith: Something for the Weekend’ was released, we’ve seen whole genres come and go (au revoir nu-rave); spellbinding new talents blossom (welcome the Gossip, Bat For Lashes, Justice and others); and every 70s and 80s band left with a heartbeat wheeled back on stage (hello again to the Police, Prince…).
Like the Smith hotel collection, though, the Smith compilations are not so concerned with the glare of the popular. We’re more interested in the sensual, the quirky and the unique. That’s why we have once again assembled a lively mix of sparkly newcomers, reliable contemporaries and charismatic old-school masters. We’ve searched for tracks between the cracks of the usual to deliver a boutique soundtrack to another year of amazing glossy and cosmopolitan weekends away… this CD delves deeper with an eclectic mix.
