Highlights

Six expert chalet staff
Located near the resort centre
Fabulous skiing in the Four Valleys
Large panoramic sun terrace
A personalised, relaxed atmosphere

Smith tip

The resort can get crowded, just like any resort in the Alps – particularly if snow conditions are great. The chalet staff’s local knowledge can be very useful in these circumstances. The small resort of Champex-Lac just down the valley towards Italy is often deserted even on a perfect powder day and its four lifts provide access to some great off-piste skiing. If conditions are not so good in Verbier they are very often the complete opposite on the other side of the San Bernardo Pass in Italy.

Style
Timbered hideaway
Setting
Very Verbier

Located right in the centre of Verbier, Chalet Solmaï is one of the largest private chalets in the resort and also one of the most luxurious. Made from local stone and timber, it was originally a family home and has been decorated with personal touches and a splendid private art collection. The chalet has the highest level of style and comfort and sleeps up to 18 guests. Solmaï consists of two discreet halves with their own dining and living rooms which can be used independently or together. Six staff, including an expert live-in chef, provide exceptional service and can ensure an unforgettable stay in Switzerland’s Four Valleys – famed for its off-piste and heli-skiing.

Eating and drinking
The main dining area has a more formal atmosphere and opens out onto a large south-facing terrace. The second dining room is normally used for breakfast. The expert chalet chef prepares breakfast and afternoon tea each day and dinner on six nights of the week. Solmaï also has an excellent wine cellar with à la carte wine list. The chalet is fully catered but if you want to pick up some essentials or buy some local specialities as presents there are lots of options in the resort. Supermarket: Migros on Route de Verbier downhill from the central roundabout has the widest choice. It doesn’t serve alcohol. (Monday to Saturday: 08h30–12h15 and 14h30–19h; Sunday: 09h30–12h15 and 16h–19h). Off licence: Denner Discount is the best place for wines, beers and spirits. It’s on Residence Du Parc. Deli: La Source on the central square has an excellent bakery and a wide selection of meat, fish and local cheeses (+41 (0)27 771 22 87).
Housekeeping

Fresh flowers, weekly magazines and daily newspapers are all provided. In-chalet beauty treatments and massage can be arranged, as can personal trainers and fitness instructors.
Children
Welcome. Car seats, cots, children’s cutlery, kids’ menus and high chairs can all be provided as can nannies and babysitters. The mezzanine bedroom is ideal for children.
Entertainment
Both living rooms have a music centre, CD library and iPod docking station, as does the master bedroom.
