Smith tip
You’re in pole position at Apartment Angelina so if there’s a good snowfall during the night, don’t hang around once the cable car opens. Chamonix has some of the best off-piste skiing in the Alps but conditions don’t stay perfect for long. You can expect a lot of competition to be the first through the powder first thing in the morning.

Winter
Chamonix is one of the best locations in Europe for active holidays, with a wide range of activities to choose from year-round. 90 per cent of Chamonix’s ski areas are above 2000 metres so the snow conditions are invariable excellent in winter. Some of the most famous ski runs in the Alps are on your doorstep, including the legendary 23-kilometre-long Vallée Blanche. As well as almost 100 miles of piste in the immediate vicinity, you can tackle snow-shoeing, husky mushing and heli-skiing too.
Ski services
The concierge can organise all kinds of sports and activities and there’s an enormous number of options to choose from in Chamonix, including heli-skiing, paragliding, snowshoeing and ice driving. In-chalet equipment fitting can be arranged, and your ski passes can also be taken care of for you, so you needn’t waste any time at the start of your stay. There are just as many activities in the summer and you can try your hand at mountaineering, ice climbing, hiking, mountain biking, golf and white-water rafting. In the Summer months
In the summer there are even more activities to choose from (over 60 different sports apparently) including paragliding, mountaineering, hiking, mountain biking and white-water rafting. There’s even a golf course should the urge for a high altitude round grab you. There are fantastic walks downhill to Chamonix from the Montenvers train station above the Mer de Glace. If you have the right equipment and a guide then hiking the glacier is a real adventure.Restaurants
