The infinity pool here was made for lazing in the water. Position yourself in the shallow end and you can cunningly rest your head on the edge of the pool and lie lengthways on the gentle slope.

This simple, stylish villa with a spectacular 22-metre saltwater pool is owned by a cool Danish couple. And it shows. Set in a woodland nature reserve in the mountains above Cala Jondal, this eco-conscious holiday house is only a 20-minute walk from the beach. But as alluring as that white sand is, you may find the privacy of all this low-key luxury keeps you anchored at Can Ananja. Especially with that dazzling pool which is as practical as it is pretty – floating steps separate the child-friendly shallow end from the deeper azure water. This chic but simple villa and lovely landscaped grounds feels utterly secluded even though it is only a short drive from the airport and within close reach of San José and Ibiza Town.

- Can Ananja is suited to kids of all ages – Ibiza is a good place to be young and a great place to stay young. The most significant feature is that the shallow end of the pool is only 30–60cm deep and there is also a pool alarm, although small kids should always be supervised.
