NB City

- Hip little hideaway
- Setting
- 1880s downtown terrace
Beyond the front courtyard of NB City sits an immaculately renovated stone terrace, with a living room, bedroom, home office, bathroom, kitchen and outdoor entertaining area – perfect for a romantic Adelaide break or naughty weekend. The townhouse is compact, but creative design makes the most of the available space. Contemporary colours (aubergine, teak, mushroom and chalk-white), savvy technology (flatscreen TVs, iPod dock, Foxtel and BOSE stereo) and urban taste (MOMA prints, Asian knickknacks) elevate the clever lay out to a sophisticated plane. This is a haven to hide away in, catch your breath, get your bearings and rejuvenate – a discreet, shapely bolthole where you can close the door on stress and go barefoot on the rugs.

In the know
Eating and drinkingNB City invites you to self-cater, with a contemporary kitchen which makes cooking a pleasure. The pantry is packed with basic supplies, including condiments, cereals, sugar, pasta, tinned beans, soup, coffee and tea. It’s so close to Adelaide’s Central Market (www.adelaidecentralmarket.com.au), though, there’s no excuse for not stocking up on super-fresh South Australian produce: the region’s market gardens are closer here than they are in other cities. The kitchen area has high stools seating four and opens on to the rear courtyard with an outdoor (undercover) table. A wine rack runs down the side of the fridge (itself filled with milk, butter, mineral water, muffins and soft drinks). Wine, champagne and sparking shiraz are on hand for spontaneous toasts or romantic interludes.
