Le Ti Chalet

Verbier, Switzerland

There are two double bedrooms, a children’s bunk room and a rather quirky twin room on a mezzanine level directly above the main living area. All bathrooms have Jo Malone products. The bedrooms have humidifiers to off-set the dry Alpine air.

Interior

Bedrooms

Bedroom one: this double room on the ground floor is the master bedroom. It has a semi-open-plan bathroom with a roll-top bath. The room has a front-facing view over the garden.
Bedroom two: also on the ground floor, this double room has an en suite bathroom with an unusual (and fun) alcove bath.
Bunk room: this room sleeps three and is ideal for children. It has an en suite stone shower room.
Bedroom three: this twin bedroom on the mezzanine level above the living room might seem a bit unconventional. It has its own bathroom but it’s on the ground floor. If you’re on holiday with family, or if you’re the life and soul of the party, then it’s ideal.

Activities

Activities

With over 250 miles of runs, Verbier has skiing to suit all levels of ability, but intermediate and experienced skiers in particular will find plenty of challenging slopes to tackle; the north face of Mont-Fort is not for the faint-hearted. As well as famous routes like Stairway to Heaven, Verbier also has some of the best and most accessible off-piste skiing in the Alps. Beginners aren’t left out though – there are gentler options, particularly on Les Ruinettes and Savoleyres. There’s also a host of other activities, including paragliding, skidooing, snow shoeing, ice-skating and two 10-kilometre toboggan runs. La Fantastique offer these activities as well as ice climbing (www.lafantastique.com).

Smith tip

Culture and skiing don’t normally go together but Verbier is a little bit different. It’s a short drive or train ride from the resort to Martigny, home of the excellent Foundation Pierre Gianadda (www.gianadda.ch). This is a complex of galleries, museums and concert halls which hosts exhibitions by artists such as Chagall, Kandinsky and Van Gogh as well as staging numerous classical concerts.

Getting there

Planes Geneva airport is a little under two hours away by car (www.gva.ch). Le Ti Chalet can organise transfers and will meet you at the airport. They even bring a goody bag for your journey.

Trains Getting to Verbier by train is perfectly possible. The journey takes three hours from the airport to the nearest station down in the valley at Le Châble. You can make the transfer to the resort by cable car, which drops you off within five minutes' drive of the chalet, or organise a transfer with the chalet manager.

Local taxi service In the unlikely event you get separated from your chauffeur-driven 4x4s and need a taxi, try May Taxi (+41 (0)27 771 7771) or Taxi Rosset (+41 (0)27 771 1266).

Directions by road It’s motorway all the way from Geneva to Martigny. It’s cheaper to hire cars on the French side of Geneva Airport but these don’t have the permits for the Swiss motorways so don’t be tempted. From Martigny take the E27 and follow the directions to Verbier. It’s best if you arrange to be met in the main square in the resort; the chalet is only a short drive from there.

Le Ti Chalet

Verbier, Switzerland

Le Ti’s most enticing room is the fabulous den, with its US-style pool table and an entertainment system worthy of NASA.

Review

Built with weathered timbers and local stone, and surrounded by its own garden, Le Ti projects the rustic image of a traditional Alpine chalet. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and snug, with antique trunks, comfy armchairs and plenty of Old World character. But this beautiful property is far from basic. Guests here enjoy the very highest standards of comfort and service, with all the facilities you would expect from one of Verbier’s leading chalets. This is definitely a most indulgent way to enjoy one of the most outstanding resorts in the Swiss Alps.

Le Ti is smaller than most chalets but that serves only to accentuate its cosy air of relaxed informality. The two double bedrooms, three-bed children’s bunk room and twin bedroom on the mezzanine level make the chalet an ideal choice for a family ski holiday or a getaway with a group of close friends. All rooms have en suite bath or shower rooms which themselves have lots of personality. The semi-open-plan roll-top bath and the alcove tub are both great fun. The mezzanine twin bedroom might lack a bit of privacy, but sleeping under the eaves is a great experience.

The chalet has a staff of four, including a professional chef who will prepare breakfast, afternoon tea and an evening meal with wine for you. Le Ti offers a completely personalised service so the chef can prepare whatever you would like, given a bit of notice. Your host will make sure you’ll never want for an apéritif or post-dinner drink. The chalet has a complimentary bar as well as a fantastic 1,200-bottle wine cellar, so in addition to the excellent house wines there’s a dazzling selection of some of the world’s finest grand crus to choose from.

The dining area next to the open-plan kitchen is a great place to spend the evening, and the sitting area with its comfortable armchairs next to the stone fireplace is ideal for guests wanting to relax. The chalet’s garden is a great bonus and it’s also possible to eat out on the terrace. Le Ti’s most enticing room, though, is the fabulous den, with its US-style pool table and an entertainment system worthy of NASA. It’s a great place to party under the watchful gaze of Hendrix and Morrison. You won’t want to miss out on Verbier’s lively nightlife either; two chauffeur-driven 4x4s are at your disposal 24 hours a day to help you explore.

Despite Verbier’s famed après-ski it’s best to pace yourself in this resort. You’ll need plenty of energy in the morning to get the most from over 250 miles of runs and some excellent off-piste skiing. Your chalet manager can arrange a wealth of activities, including parapenting, skidooing, ice climbing and heli-skiing. All those time-consuming details, such as lift passes, in-chalet ski and boot fitting, ski lessons and mountain guides can be effortlessly taken care of so that you can concentrate on carving a few stylish edges as you glide down the mountains.
