Activities

Best picnic spot

Pack some lunch and head west to Cala d’Hort beach: it’s a little shallow water cove, with wonderful views of dramatic and uninhabited Es Vedra island. Contact your concierge service Deliciously Sorted to ask them to arrange some catering for you.

Best beaches

North-coast Cala d’en Serra near Portinatx is a well-kept secret. Aguas Blancas on the northeast coast has a great chiringuito serving caipirinhas and steak sandwiches. Salinas beach is a hotspot for the gorgeous people. It has a handy sun lounger service but, be warned, this beach gets very busy in high season. Cala Jondal in the east is beloved for its seafood restaurants.

Activities

Hire a 4x4 and take to the dirt tracks that criss-cross the pine forests in the north of the island. There’s limitless opportunity for golf, sailing, water-skiing, windsurfing, diving, horse-riding, go-karting and hot-air balloon trips, too. Speak to Deliciously Sorted to arrange.

Getting there

Planes Iberia, British Airways and EasyJet all fly into Ibiza airport, which is about five miles southwest of Ibiza Town. Direct flights take a little over two hours from the UK. (There are no direct flights from the UK during November to March.) If you’re not hiring a car, taxis from the rank outside the airport are metred and reasonable (around €10 for the trip to Ibiza Town).

Local taxi service Taxi San Joan (+34 971 333033), WBW private driving service (+34 696 253759). For car hire, click on our Travel Offers page. Smithcard holders get a 10 per cent discount with Hertz.

Directions by road Forget map-reading nightmares – a representative will meet you and your party at the airport and help you find your villa. But here are directions for your records… Upon leaving the airport you will come to a strange junction where you will need to turn right, cross the main road and follow the signs to San Josep. Follow this road for approximately 3km. When you reach the next roundabout, turn right onto the main road from Ibiza to San Josep. Take the next immediate left off the main road – but do not go straight ahead. Turn a sharp left and come back directly on yourself behind the safety barriers. Then take your first immediate right onto a small tarmac road, which then leads onto a dirt track. Continue up this winding road (about half a kilometre) until you come to a faded red wall with a rusty dead-end sign on the right-hand side (this is the second dead-end sign that you will pass on this road). At this sign, turn right and continue along this dirt track until you reach the electronic gates for Casa Luna, which will have a painted green stone outside it. It’s easier to find than it sounds, we promise.

Casa Luna

Ibiza, Balearic Islands, Spain

Private, peaceful and with perfect sea views from the gardens, pool and terrace, terracotta-coloured Casa Luna conjures homely high luxury

Review

If a houseful of high-design minimalism and acres of bleak white walls and an array of fully-gorgeous-but-less-than-comfortable furniture is not what you're after, this holiday rental is sumptuously stylish and utterly grown-up. Private, peaceful and with perfect sea views from the gardens, pool and terrace, terracotta-coloured Casa Luna conjures homely high luxury.

Gracefully manicured gardens and a sun-drenched swimming pool make this the perfect Ibiza escape for both groups of friends and families with little ones. Intimate yet spacious, Casa Luna enjoys sky-high privacy, yet with all the benefits of nearby Ibiza Town: just four kilometres away.

Step through large sliding wooden doors, and a medley of sleep-inducing sofas, Aztec-inspired rugs and heavy wooden furniture greets you inside. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors that span the length of the living room slide back and disappear completely into the walls; blurring the distinction between inside and out – and allowing the cool Ibizan breeze to swirl into the house, bringing with it just the most subtle of scents from the lemon and orange trees nearby.

A tangle of shocking-pink bignonia flowers weave their way up, over and above the large terrace – providing a pink roof shade over a courtyard of low and comfortable outdoor sofas. Stepping stones lead down through the gardens and beyond, as two lines of ordered orange trees point you towards a fountain and rock garden under the pine trees. This villa was made for relaxing; idyllic lawns are punctuated with huge birds of paradise flowers and sun loungers shaped like palm leaves – just ripe for sprawling on in the sunshine.

Guests might have a fight on their hands when it comes to drawing straws for the master bedroom. By far the highlight of the property, it’s a wooden-floored, Oriental-inspired space of tranquility with a walk-in closet this Mrs Smith wished she could fold up, tuck in her case and take home. It’s the little touches of luxury that make you never want to leave this room; the rowing machine (nice idea in theory), the plasma-screen TV, the window above the bed… this room has been well thought-out. The other bedrooms are extremely private – and with double rooms sitting handily next to twins, parents will be glad to know that their children are just next door to them. Or maybe not…
