- There's no pool, but you can sunbathe on the decked rooftop or walk the 50 metres to the beach. If you look the part, you can use the pool at the Raleigh, too.

- Rooms aren't very large but they are great value. Superior rooms are a little more expensive, as they have an extra window. Both penthouses have a private terrace; the one with an Atlantic view has a roll-top bath; the one with a city view has a Jacuzzi.

- Bond St is the South Beach outpost of the famous New York sushi restaurant; the Chilean seabass skewers and spicy tuna rolls are specialities.

- The restaurant closes at midnight Sunday–Wednesday; 1am Thursday–Saturday; the Rooftop closes at 2am.

- Bond St takes on a bar feel later in the evening; try the sake Bloody Marys. The Rooftop lounge is also a very cool venue, with hip parties on Fridays and Saturdays.

Local restaurants
Nobu (+1 305 695 3100) at the Shore Club is just the other side of Collins Avenue and serves unparalleled Asian cusine; the rock shrimp tempura is a signature dish. Also at the Shore Club, Ago (+1 305 695 3226) is a well-regarded Italian restaurant owned by Robert de Niro; make sure you get a table outside. Across the road is the Setai (+1 305 520 6000), the height of South Beach opulence and excess; the restaurant show kitchen produces excellent Thai, Chinese and Indian dishes.
