Romantic middle-of-nowhere atmosphere with 54 acres and wonderful views in the heart of Dartmoor. A river runs through it – the Teign tumbles through the grounds.
Weddings at Gidleigh Park are only undertaken on an exclusive-use basis, so the wedding party must also book all the hotel bedrooms. Marquees can't be erected in the hotel grounds.
Each wedding is bespoke, and no two weddings are the same. The food is exquisite, and the reception meal will be created under the watchful eye of two-Michelin starred chef Michael Caines. Staff have a good contacts book with details of hairdressers, beauticians and photographers.

The Loft Suite has a double and a twin room. The Pavilion (a thatched cottage in the grounds) overlooks the croquet lawn. There's no charge for babies in cots sharing their parents' room. It costs £45 (b&b) for older children.
Children love running around the large grounds and exploring Dartmoor National Park and its wildlife. There are tennis courts and rackets available to borrow, plus croquet and a small putting green. Toy boxes brimming with toys for all ages can be found in the first-floor Pantry.
Only children aged eight or older can dine in the restaurant in the evening. High Tea is served, from 5pm-6.30pm, for younger children. Staff are happy to heat up milk and baby food, and prepare child-friendly packed lunches.
With 24-hours notice, babysitting can be organised at a cost of £7.50 an hour.
Baby monitors work in all rooms (apart from the Pavilion). You can borrow one and leave it at reception for staff to check while you dine.
There are plenty of high chairs in the restaurant. Child-sized wellington boots are available at reception.
Every room has a TV and there are DVD players and a small selection of children's DVDs to borrow. The Pantry, located on the first floor, is open 24 hours a day. It has a kettle and toaster, and is stocked with milk, tea, coffee and homemade biscuits. It also has a fridge in which guests can store baby food and milk. The valet parking is a useful service when you've kids in tow.
