Style
Bookish beach bolt-hole
Setting
Swinging Chaweng seaside

Despite its literary credentials, the Library boutique hotel in Chaweng Beach sizzles with glamour, with a crimson-tiled pool, statues of figures poring over books, and leafy trees weaving around crisp white buildings.

Poolside
Looking out over the beach and the bay, the Library’s iconic pool is lined with vivid scarlet Italian tile, coloured to match the parasols and loungers on the wooden decking that surround it.

Eco-friendly
The Library was designed to minimise environmental impact, being built around rather than over the on-site flora. Recycling is de rigueur, and all waste plant matter is made into compost.
Also
Smoking is not allowed indoors, but you can light up on your terrace or balcony.

In the know

Our favourite rooms
The Bookmark Suite is closest to the beach and affords fabulous views of the sea and the blood-red swimming pool from the comfort of the bed. All suites (the odd-numbered ‘pages’ on the ground floor) have Jacuzzis to bliss out in.
Packing tips
Leave your holiday reading at home. The Library lives up to its name, with hundreds of titles available to leaf through, as well as a wide selection of DVDs.
Also
Water-based excursions abound – try your fins at snorkeling or scuba diving in the Gulf of Thailand, or head inland and trek the jungle waterfalls.

Food & drink

Koh Samui hotels: The Library, food and drink

Lazy beach garb.
Top table
Secure a spot on the terrace, as close as you can to the sea.
Last orders
The ovens cool at 10.30pm, but the bar’s open until midnight.
Room service
A variety of snacks and meals, inspired by the restaurant menu.
Hotel bar
The Page restaurant’s beach bar is a modern-minded chill-out zone, serving mean mojitos and zingy, zesty lychee caprioskas to a soothing soundtrack of Buddha-bar-esque tunes.

Local restaurants

Chaweng Beach is awash with eateries, some good, some distinctly avoidable. Ou top choices are rustic Italian Bellini (+66 (0) 7741 3831) and casual Californina-meet-Thai joint Betelnut (+66 (0) 7741 3370), both in Soi Colibri.

Nightlife

The clubs in Chaweng Beach are renowned throughout Thailand, although not always in a good way. Try Mexico-inspired Guapa (+66 (0) 897 242 843) in Soi Colibri for jazzy riffs, latin anthems and Cuban cigars.

Wow factor

Celebrate your union in the most strikingly modern, fashionista-friendly boutique hotel in Koh Samui. Because the hotel buildings were designed to blend harmoniously with the beachfront trees and plants, the Library’s a good eco choice too.

Need to know

The hotel can take care of any wedding arrangements, from flowers to entertainment, and a dedicated consultant will ensure every nuptial need is met. September and November are the rainiest months, and March – August can be unbearably hot, making December–February the ideal period to book your celebration.

Inspiration

The blood-red tiled pool will make a more-than-memorable photo backdrop.
