Poolside

The distinctive teacup-shaped infinity pool juts curvily out over the beach, flanked with flat wooden day-beds.

Children

Aleenta is divided into two areas, one smaller child-friendly wing, and a larger adults-only area by the main reception. Extra beds are available in all rooms except the Pool Suites for THB1,800 a night (THB900 for under-11s).

Also

Aleenta’s KA spa uses its own blend of natural ingredients to make wonderfully sensuous body scrubs and massage oils. Two-night minimum stay at weekends.

Our favourite rooms

The panoramically endowed Penthouse is an obvious choice with its rounded bedroom, rooftop lounge and sunken stone tub that’s perfect for aromatherapy baths (the Canella Ocean View Suite has one too), but we also like the bathroom in Frangpani 3 and Palm 5, for its picture-perfect entrance.

Packing tips

A notebook; whether you’re inspired to pen that first novel or anxious to note down some recipes from a Thai cooking class, you’ll need somewhere to collect your thoughts.

Hotel restaurant

Aleenta’s restaurant serves up a zingy fusion of Thai and Western dishes from its open kitchen. With both indoor and outdoor dining space and sweet sea breezes year-round, it’s a dainty tropical eatery, with occasional culinary theme nights.

Dress code

Light linen shirts and swish beachy skirts.

Top table

When the weather’s dry enough, you have to go poolside. Otherwise the tables by the front window overlook the ocean and offer great dining-with-a-view.

Last orders

The restaurant closes at 10.30pm, while the bar keeps the drinks flowing until the last guest retires.

A modest, laid-back lounge bar by the pool serves a wide variety of refreshments, include the secret concoction which they call an Aleenta White and which we call ‘delicious’.
