Poolside

The rectangular jade swimming pool in the middle of Puripunn centres on a large Jacuzzi sala and is surrounded by elegant greenery.

Children

There’s one large suite suitable for those with small Smiths, and babysitting can be arranged with prior notice. The hotel pool has an integrated children’s area.

Guests have the choice of enjoying welcoming drinks, flowers a fruit basket, or traditional Thai desserts on arrival. All rooms are non-smoking, (although all open-air areas are fair game for nicotinites).

Our favourite rooms

Book one of the two chocolate-walled Baby Suites for the most romantic, whirlpool-bath-enhanced stay. All rooms are attractively decked out in old world Thai-colonial style, with rich greens, warm woods and cream hues. Little touches such as porcelain-handled taps, ornately framed paintings and brass ceiling fans make staying in Puripunn like stepping into oriental yesteryear.

Packing tips

Bring solid walking shoes if you plan on exploring the local hills and forests; make sure you have plenty of change for trinkets at the nearby Night Bazaar – three stories of local goods and craftworks.

Puripunn offers classes in Thai cookery and, for more artistic foodies, fruit and veg carving.

Punna Café is a bright and airy wood-lined eatery on the second floor, where signature Northern Thai cuisine is served alongside European dishes and Puripunn’s indisputably elegant high tea.

10.30pm in the restaurant, the bar keeps serving until midnight.
