In the know

Our favourite rooms
Style rooms and Experience suites have king-size beds; all Experience suites have an additional TV in the bathroom (if you like to watch while you wash). Corner rooms are brighter, with big windows (light sleepers should probably avoid those overlooking the terrace at the back, as it can be noisy at weekends when the bar is busy). For a romantic weekend, try room 201, which has a red Italian-leather bed, a large bathroom and walk-in shower. 303 has a lovely pitched roof, and a great desk area if you need to use your laptop while you're away.
Packing tips
Leave the GHDs at home – Dylan has hair straighteners you can borrow to add polish to lacklustre locks.
Also
Not all rooms have bath tubs, so if you love long hot soaks make sure you request one when you book.

Food & drink

Food and drink, Dylan hotel, Dublin, Ireland
Hotel restaurant
Feast on the freshest of Irish produce cooked with French flair at Dylan Restaurant. The recently re-styled eatery is decked out with glossy wood-topped tables, 1950s inspired lighting, silver and nori coverings on the chairs and soft velvet banquettes. By day, it's bright and airy but at night, romance levels soar and the lighting levels drop, with contented diners lingering over Padraic Hayden's fine cuisine at candle-studded tables.
Dress code
Comfortable urban élan.
Top table
A table by the window for people-watching or a corner table with the extra-high-backed chairs for maximum intimacy.
Last orders
Dylan Restaurant: Monday–Wednesday, 10.30pm; Thursday–Saturday, 11pm; Sunday, 10pm. Dylan Bar: 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays; 11.30pm on Thursdays and 11pm the rest of the week.
Room service
Full menu available 24 hours a day (fish of the day and roast-beef sandwiches are good choices).
Hotel bar
Dylan Bar is popular among in-the-know Dubliners for its decadent decor and killer cocktails; slurp a trademark Dylan mixed with Stoli and Galliano on a peacock-blue velvet stool at the bar, or flirt with flutes in a scarlet-clad nook.

Local restaurants

Town Bar & Grill (+353 (0)1 662 4724) is a relaxed trattoria-style restuarant serving mouthwatering Modern Italian dishes in vaulted cellars beneath a wine merchant at 21 Kildare Street; try osso bucco with saffron risotto and ask the knowledgable sommelier to choose you a suitable wine. With two Michelin stars, Patrick Guilbaud at 21 Upper Merrion Street (+353 (0)1 676 4192) is an absolute must-book; the eponymous chef's modern classic cuisine has made it Ireland’s top restaurant. Check out the city's sexiest dining room at the La Stampa hotel restuarant, Balzac, at 35 Dawson Street (+353 (0)1 677 8611), while you sample its tasty international cuisine.

Local bars

The exotic-looking Zanzibar on Lower Ormond Street is big, busy and full of the beautiful people (+353 (0)1 878 7212). The Clarence hotel at 6 Wellington Quay is part-owned by U2, and houses the trendy Octagon Bar (+353 (0)1 407 0800), where bartenders will rustle you up a superior martini.

Local cafes

The Expresso Bar Café on St Mary’s Road (virtually opposite Dylan) is a grand place to start a day in Dublin, with good coffee and freshly squeezed juices (+353 (0)1 660 0585).

Nightlife

Lillie's Bordello off Grafton Street hauls in a regular crowd of dressed-up Dubliners for club nights; entry for non-members is €15 at weekends (+353 (0)1 6799204). Rock around the Bloc at Pravda on Lower Liffey Street (+353 (0)1 874 0091); housed in a former parcel office, this Soviet-themed bar is full of Russian curios for that cosy dacha feel.

Worth getting out of bed for

You're only 750 metres from the shopping delights of the largely pedestrianised Grafton Street, with venerable department store Brown Thomas and the jeweller Weirs. It was Damien Rice's busking turf of choice before he hit the charts. For more activities and must-sees, check out our Dublin destination guide.
