In the know

Our favourite rooms
Of the nine high-ceilinged cabanas, five are positioned on the beachfront, steps from the surf. Book one on either end of this first row for more privacy and uninterrupted views. Each one has been built from sustainable Amazon wood, with palm leaves shaping the 20-foot high roofs. Decor is sparse and simple to emphasise airiness and space.
Packing tips
There are no TVs here, so if you need a distraction beyond the stunning scenery, pack a holiday bookshelf.
Also
If you’re visiting between June and November keep your eyes on the ocean – it’s breeding time for the local whale community and you can usually spot the Jubarte whales gathering around Bahia shores.

Food & drink

Hotel restaurant
Meals are served in a tall wooden building at the centre of the resort. Cuisine is simple local fare, mostly sourced either from the organic vegetable garden or local fishermen’s nets.

Laid-back to the point of horizontality.
Top table
Dine alfresco and by candlelight on the decked terrace at the front of the restaurant, with sweeping ocean views.
Last orders

Room service
Staff will happily bring snacks and drinks to your room between 9am and 10pm.
Hotel bar
There’s no bar, but guests can enjoy drinks in the main building – the terrace outside the restaurant has cosy outdoor sofas, ideal for aperitifs.

Local restaurants

All meals are provided on site, which is just as well, as the only way you’d get to eat out in these parts is if you catch your own dinner.

Worth getting out of bed for

Tauana sits on the border of two of Brazil’s most beautiful national parks, so there’s plenty of opportunity for trekking, biking and gazing about in wonderment. July to November's whale watching season, and also the best time of year for scuba diving. Tauana arranges kayak trips through the mangroves and fishing excursions with the locals, too. If you’re prepared to make the two-hour drive, Monte Pascoal National Park marks the first land sighted by the Portuguese when they landed in Brazil in 1500, and is also home to a Pataxó Indian settlement.
