Mr & Mrs Smith: Something For The Weekend Vol. 3
When? On the road to your boutique hotel
Why? Let the games commence
Please excuse us for singing our own praises, but many feel that our third compilation instalment is the best yet. Full of the weird and the wonderful (some you’ll know, many you won’t), it’s an unpredictable and highly international mix of soul, indie, dance, African and Balearic music which touches down with classics from the Supremes and Ian Dury before visiting hot new talent. Designed to be the soundtrack to an adventurous weekend away, this is all you need to pack apart from your toothbrush and smalls. |

Amadou & Mariam
Dimanche a Bamako
When? You want to wow
Why? As exotic as it gets
‘World music’, discuss. Didgeridoos, sandals and beads? We’ve got news for you: in an age of international travel and style, world music is where it is at. A Smith jetsetter needs to be up on their global sounds. Amadou & Mariam are a blind couple from Mali whose positive music is utterly endearing. This incredible album spent weeks at number one in the French charts while barely getting a look-in across the Channel. Immediately accessible, yet startling and extraordinary, its rich tapestry of snippets of conversations, reggae-styled rhythms and soulful Malian blues make it an unforgettable delight. Suddenly your dinner parties got a whole lot more sophisticated… |

You must be seen at...
Junior Boys live at Cargo
This Canadian electronic discopop duo released one of the most engaging albums of 2006 with ‘So This Is Goodbye’. The Guardian got it right when they described it as ‘Talk Talk produced by Timbaland’. Add to that influences from Kraftwerk through to Scritti Politti and you have an idea of why we’re luring you to catch this unique act perform in one of Shoreditch’s premier live venues.
In-the-know tip
Escape the bustle of Hoxton and head to Clerkenwell’s The Zetter for a peaceful end to the night.
Junior Boys live at Cargo, Rivington St, London EC2A
16 November
7.30pm–1am; £8.50
