Local restaurants
Prime One Twelve (+1 305 532 8112) on Ocean Drive is a bustling super-swish steak house with attitude; vegetarians might feel a bit left out. Bond St (+1 305 398 1806) at the Townhouse hotel on 20th Street is an excellent sushi restaurant; the scallop and asparagus rolls are delicious. China Grill (+1 305 534 2211) on Washington Avenue is a very popular venue serving Japanese and French dishes. Grab a pavement table at tiny La Laconda (+1 305 538 6277), also on Washington, for tasty Italian food and an excellent atmosphere.Local bars
Tiffany Spire Bar, at the unimaginatively named 'The Hotel' on Collins Avenue, has the best roof bar in South Beach, with great views. If you're looking for a place where the primped and preened go to let their hair down, head for riotous neon of Automatic Slims on Washington Avenue where the tequila flows freely. For a full list of eating and drinking recommendations in Miami, check out our Miami eating & drinking guide
Worth getting out of bed for
The Boucher Brothers can supply just about anything you could conceivably need for the beach, including windsurfers, kayaks, sailing boats and rollerblades; they also organise parasailing. You can find their offices at 420 Lincoln Road, and at the Fontainebleau Hilton on Collins Avenue – visit www.boucherbrothers.com for details.
The Bass Museum of Art (+1 305 673 7530; www.bassmuseum.org) on Park Avenue is the centre of the South Beach art scene and well worth a visit.
