In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- In the main building, Palmer House, we liked Suite 1 for its vaulted ceiling, four-poster bed, dramatic fireplace and spacious silvery-grey marble bathroom. Suite 4 is also an excellent option, thanks to its bay-window views onto the marina and the private terrace. Although it’s the smallest (and cheapest) Suite 3 is also a prime choice, with its beautiful French windows opening onto a leafy private terrace. Suites 1 and 2 share a sitting room (where you'll find a fireplace, a full wet bar and another TV), as do 3, 4 and 5.
- Packing tips
- A demurely nautical designer-label wardrobe (think wooden yacht rather than gin palace).
- Also
- Thanks to the fully serviced marina and boathouse, you sail in to the hotel – or, if helicopters are your steed of choice, ask the concierge to charter a Falcon 10 to whisk you to or from East Hampton Airport. To book one of East Hampton Point's 13 self-catering cottages, visit their dedicated Smith & Friends page.

- Hotel bar
- Running with the ocean-faring theme, the yacht-clubby bar’s centrepiece is a 20ft sloop with a mast reaching up to the ceiling. There’s an unpretentious outdoor area dotted with director’s chairs that overlooks Three Mile Harbor. A local band plays every Sunday evening.
