In the know

Our favourite rooms
The regal Roberts suite is awash with russet and gold hues, and decadent touches. The majestic bed takes pride of place, and comes with a winged brass bedhead, mother-of-pearl inlay and swathes of rich, heavy fabric, including a luxurious white quilt peppered with velvet and silk cushions. The bed is so high and mighty, there’s even a little footstool to help you clamber up on to it. The mushroom and pink walls, squashy sofa, antique wardrobe and picturesque views add up to a deliciously elegant environment. The bathroom is equally enticing, with its marbletop vanity, scented candles, ‘naughty bath bags’ containing aromatic bath salts, and a roll-top bath and shower.
Packing tips
Bring swimwear so as to catch a tan in the gardens, which are soon to be equipped with sun loungers. Be sure to bring a good book: an Agatha Christie manor house murder mystery, or an art guide to local painter John Constable.
Also
A stash of fishing rods, mountain bikes, umbrellas and Wellington boots are on hand for you to use, free of charge, during your stay.
