The hotel concierge recommended a restaurant round the corner in the heart of Soho called Inamo, on Wardour Street, when we said we wanted to eat Asian/Oriental food nearby at a budget of c.£30-40 per head for the two of us. Inamo (+44 (0)207 851 7051) offers modern eclectic Asian fusion with Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese influences/dishes. The concept of the restaurant is very modern and works well - we were shown to our table in a little underground den part of the restaurant making you feel like part of an exclusive club, we were sat right next to a group of four on the same table but didn't feel intrusive or intruded upon. The waitress shows you how to order your food yourself when you're ready, using a touch-sensitive pad on the table top (the menu appears in the lit-up table in front of you!). While waiting for the food you can play battleships on the table top or change the pattern on the table (or – a novel idea – have a conversation!), we were told the food normally takes 20 minutes from ordering and to order at the same time to avoid our food coming out separately. However, the food was well-timed and we didn't feel we had waited at all. Side dishes and drinks ordered were brought down relatively promptly and the food was fantastic. I had chicken 'jungle' curry and stir-fried greens the husband had crispy duck pancakes and baby ribs - all were delicious, a few beers and 10% service charge (well they did bring the food down for us I suppose!) brought the total bill to £62 - not bad at all! You could even order your bill individually or for your group - perfect for a large group. We would, and have, definitely recommend this place for couples and groups of friends. Lovely chilled atmosphere (on a Sunday night when we went at least), reasonable prices, cool concept and lovely food - with a very short walk back to The Soho Hotel. Perfect.
We were unsure where to meet friends, and were not disappointed when we discovered Soho Thai (+1 20 7287 2000) – food deliciously authentic and a great evening had by all.
We had a wonderful stay at Soho Hotel. The cocktails in the bar were excellent. We only used room service but I can highly recommend the Soho burger – it was fabulous. Service was also extremely good. We will definitely return.
We went to a great club night called Shake, Rattle and Bowl, run by Bob Stanley (ex-St Etienne), which is on monthly in Tavistock Square in the basement of a hotel. Soho Hotel was excellent; we had a meal in Gary Rhodes W1 which was very average – should have stayed nearer to hotel with loads of top restaurants around the corner.
Complimentary champagne went down a treat...
My husband and I needed a short break away before the schools went back after the summer break. I thought London might prove to be just what we needed. Arriving at the Soho Hotel was a shock. In the heart of the bustling area of Soho, down a little lane, was the hotel. The exterior did not prepare us for the luxury of the interior. We were greeted warmly and passed the bar which was buzzing with people. We were shown to our room which was spacious and quiet as I had requested, so as not to be awaken by late-night revellers. We walked down the lane and straight in front of us was a restaurant called Lazeez – we had a delicious cocktail upstairs before being shown to our table downstairs. It was a Thursday evening and the restaurant was by no means full. We had the choice of where we would like to sit. We chose a cosy table with a sofa like area and lots of cushions. The restaurant was Pakistani and the starters were absolutely delicious, we chose the starter platter and the tastes were so different and interesting. For mains, I had the vegetarian platter (even though I am not vegetarian), and my husband had the lamb biryani. He hoarded this to himself and I thought the four different little dishes that made up the vegetarian platter was divine. We had a coffee and my husband had a mojito to finish dinner. We were so overcome by the flavours that we had no room for desert. Definitely the place to go for dinner if you like Asian food.
If you know someone who knows someone, then I can 100% recommend the new Paramount Club on the 32nd floor of Centre Point which is only a couple of minutes walk from the Soho Hotel. It is a members-only bar, which is why you need to know the right people, but the view is amazing on the right night and the food is pretty good too!
The most perfect place to stay – relaxed, stylish and oh so chic. The staff were friendly but relaxed. A perfect anniversary celebration.
