If you are travelling with little ones, Barbara the babysitter is wonderful! The hotel arranged for her to come and sit for ourthree babies whilst we all had dinner downstairs. We returned to peacefully sleeping children who had all been well looked after!
We stopped at the Hinds Head (+44 (0)1865 820204) at Witney Road on the way up there! Great pub and food, down the road from the Fat Duck of course...
We loved staying at Cotswold House. The breakfast in bed was sensational – tailored exactly to our tastes! I would recommend horseback riding with Jill Carenza. Only 20 minutes' drive from the hotel and the group hack is a great experience for all levels. Beautiful scenery and a great way to take in the countryside!
The Eight Bells just off Chipping Camden high street is a good gastropub, with an excellent selection of beers/ales and a strong wine-list sourced from Bennetts nearby. We dined in the restaurant area, as children are not welcome in the bar proper in the evenings. The menu is modern British and well executed.
Bennetts Fine Wines on the high street (a few doors down from Cotswold House) is a real treasure trove, with a curated selection of New and Old World wines, available to buy by the bottle and case (they also deliver to any address in the UK). We stopped by on a rainy autumn day and picked up an excellent value Côtes du Rhône, which we happily uncorked and imbibed in the comfort of the hotel.
Cotswold House is fantastic! We had a perfect winter break in this beautiful, luxurious hotel. Cotswold House has all of the style and comfort that anyone could wish for in the middle of beautiful Chipping Campden. We had a great meal at the Eight Bells, just up the road from the hotel. It is a traditional pub with fine ales and wines, but also fantastic food – the best pub food we have tasted, a roaring fire and great hospitality!
