Forget Homage to Catalonia – the only thing that this laid-back, Parisian-style hotel in the heart of the province’s symbolic capital pays homage to is the art world. With striking splashes of red and white in the bar area, and starkly framed Rothko-esque pieces adorning every wall in the intimate, artist’s studio-like rooms, the whole places buzzes with creativity. During summer it buzzes even more – and we’re not just talking about those giant insects that hum their way through the city in hot weather – as the rooftop terrace bar, with its oversized rustic wicker furniture, iron daybeds and hundreds of verdant potted plants plays host to the city’s cocktail-quaffing beautiful people.
