In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- We love the Senior Suites with direct beach access, which come with a small private pool and an outdoor marble bath. Some of these are on stilts over the water – though you’re not allowed to jump in as there’s a natural fish reserve down there. If you’re really celebrating, then go for the 350sq m Princely Suite, which comes with two pools, three terraces and a private garden.
- Packing tips
- Make sure you don’t forget to put a diving mask into your suitcase. You’ll kick yourself if you miss out on all the teeming, Technicolor life that flits over and around the coral reef at the edge of the lagoon.

Mauritius, Indian Ocean[view map]
- Style
- The spice of life
- Setting
- Traditional design with a five-star sheen
With three beaches, suites that sit over their own schools of fish and a private lagoon, Constance Le Prince Maurice isn’t afraid of a little ostentation. However, compared to some of the all-singing, all-dancing luxury resorts on Mauritius, with their plurals of golf courses, spas and entertainment choices, it’s a positive shrinking violet. The hotel is much larger than it seems, and its many facilities are dotted around the sprawling grounds so that guests never feel overwhelmed by the enormity of their leisure options. Its strength lies in its details. Stretch yourself out on a sun lounger and an attendant will appear with cold drinks and a bottle of water with which to spritz yourself. If you want a sandwich on the sands, then just hoist a flag…

Food & drink
- Hotel restaurant
- While both The Beach Deck (only open for lunch) and L’Archipel serve excellent food – try the latter’s signature dish, Trilogy of Seafood Curry, to see what we mean – the best atmosphere is to be had at Le Barachois.

- The resort is quite informal, though the bars and restaurants require a certain level of formality. Men won’t get away with a Freddie Mercury-style sleeveless vest at dinner.
- Room service
- 24 hours.
- Hotel bar
- The Laguna Bar overlooks both the infinity pool and the beach, and is a good spot in which to peruse the extensive cocktail menu. Either light jazz tinkles away inoffensively in the background or music is provided by a live sitar player.
