Mr & Mrs Smith have a trip to this luxury resort in the diary, and just as soon as they’ve unpacked their swimming things and after-sun lotion, a full account of their stay in Mauritius will be with you. Meanwhile, just to whet your wanderlust, here's a snapshot of this beautiful, all-suite retreat…
When breeze blows through the grounds of Constance Le Prince Maurice, which takes its name from the Dutch pioneer of the spice trade, the air carries the aroma of sun-warmed nutmeg – a gentle reminder that the temperate climate of home is a long way away. Balinese-style suites, made of dark teak and thatch, and shaded by coconut palms, are dotted throughout sizeable grounds, and these are never more than a leisurely stroll away from the spa, restaurants and bars – ideal, as temperatures on Mauritius regularly rise into the energy-sapping mid-seventies. Phew. It’s enough to make you want to flop down on sand as soft as whipped cream and lull yourself into a delicious, woozy half-sleep with the sound of waves rising and falling in time with your breathing. Just as well, really…
Set amongst the mangrove trees and accessed by a long, narrow bridge, Le Barachois, the hotel’s most romantic restaurant, offers both delicious fresh fish and wonderful views, and is popular with guests who want to dine à deux. If you feel as though you’re floating, you're not necessarily swooning with love for your partner (though this shouldn't be ruled out). The restaurant sits on pontoons over the lagoon and bobs like a lily on its tranquil waters.
