An absolutely fabulous week at the Sea Captain's House, which included airport transfers via a taxi. Mr Smith in particular was far from impressed that the transport was shared with another couple, without any comment or request – necessitating a rather uncomfortable journey until they were deposited en route. The return journey was similar albeit we had by then checked and learned that 'it does sometimes happen' and we were suitably relaxed about it. Being aware of this in advance we could have mentally prepared for it to be fun and quirky rather than a potentially ill-omened start! (The Mr and Mrs Smith review did not mention this as they had hired a car from the airport).
Whilst there is no beach to speak of in Oia and we knew the Sea Captain's House was pool-free, there is new pool/café a short stroll away, perfectly perched on the cliff edge, affording a great view of the sunset and complete with loungers, deck chairs, and umbrellas. Mr Smith and I spent a couple of lazy days there in between slightly more active pursuits... Staff are attentive but there was no overt pressure to keep ordering and the area itself was far more spacious than any of the pools we spotted attached to other establishments either in Oia or elsewhere on Santorini.
