In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- Executive suites 317 or 417, with their surfeit of windows looking out over the famous Alexanderplatz television tower, are the ones to ask for. Both come with their own living area and sizeable kitchen.
- Packing tips
- Bring plenty of super-stylish black clothes – think Joy Division photoshoot circa 1980 – so that you can see each other against the all-white backdrop.
Current offers
- Smith card offer
- A bottle of wine from a renowned vineyard. Up to two discounted beauty treatments or massages. VIP entrance to the hotel’s favourite nightclubs and lounges on selected days.

Berlin, Germany[view map]
- Style
- White lines blowin’ through my mind
- Setting
- Mittel Mitte
In Berlin, Europe’s ultimate sin city, it’s surprising to find a hotel with a whiter-than-white colour scheme – and with the clean lines beloved of minimalist designers to boot. But Lux 11, housed in a beautiful 19th-century apartment block just around the corner from Alexanderplatz, is quite happy to go against the grain. ‘Let them have their fun,’ it seems to be say, casting an indifferent eye on the thrill-seekers darting in and out of Mitte’s crumbling Soviet-era buildings. ‘If they want to relax and unwind in calming surroundings, then I’m here.’

Food & drink
- Hotel restaurant
- With Shiro i Shiro’s white, minimalist interior, it is up to the kitchen to provide the colour, which it does with aplomb. Choose sushi – freshly prepared by knife-wielding Japanese chefs at a corner counter – or delicious Modern European cuisine.
- Dress code
- Elegant black for him; Astrid Kirchherr crop for her.
- Top table
- Go for an alcove at the back of the restaurant. Sit on your curved blue-velvet banquette and peer out at fellow diners through the diaphanous drapes.
- Room service
- As Lux 11 is essentially an apartment building, no room service is offered.
- Hotel bar
- Set at one end of Shiro i Shiro, the bar is an elegant counter around which are set high stools – the ideal vantage point for watching impossibly good-looking barmen mix martinis.
Also worth knowing
