- Our favourite rooms
- Room 4 is the most romantic, with a huge (shaded) terrace overlooking the pool and vintage loungers. Step inside and a huge baroque bed awaits, alongside Patrick Caulfield original graphics. Room 8 has a large sunny terrace and a roll-top bath ‘den’ with curtains. Smith tip: Ask for a room with a pool view, rather than one at the front of the hotel.

- Don’t waste suitcase space on hairdryers, bathrobes, slippers or cotton wool pads – they’re all provided.

The pastel shades of Hotel Pastis wrap around you – a 360 degree hug of serenity, mere metres from the glamorous hedonism of St Tropez. Walls chocka with art open onto a pool that steams in the fresh French morning air, and a Sex Pistols framed LP hidden by the bar telling us to Never Mind the Bollocks reveals a flash of the owners’ wicked sides.

- Eight doubles and one poolside family room for four people. All have a terrace or balcony. Room 6 has wheelchair access.
- Rates
- Low season, €175–€325; high season, €400–€600. Breakfast is €20–€30.
- Check-out
- Midday. Check-in is from 4pm.
- Facilities
- Heated outdoor pool, free WiFi, air-conditioning, minibars, LCD TVs, DVD players, Côte Bastide toiletries, bathrobes, in-room DVDs and books. Local and international newspapers.
- Poolside
- A fresh stone floor opening onto a terrace of pastel sofas and palms is perfect for sunbathing, breakfasting and cocktailing at candle-lit dusk.
- Hotel closed
- Never. St Tropez stays busy until the end of the yachting season in mid Oct.
- Also
- Pets are not allowed. Smoking isn’t permitted in rooms.
Food & drink
- Hotel restaurant
- Breakfast is a sumptuous Continental affair, served on the pool-side terrace from 8–11am, or inside by the bar. There’s no restaurant as such, although a salad menu is often available for a spot of lunch.
- Dress code
- Yacht-couture; crisp linens and designer shades; deck shoes for him, espadrilles for her.
- Room service
- There is no room service at Hotel Pastis.
- Hotel bar
- Sip a poolside bellini by candlelight on the terrace, or perch at the elegant zinc bar while the night porter fixes you drinks late into the early hours.

- An extra bed can be added to rooms for €50 per night for under-14s (or €100 for adults). Two complimentary cots are available.
