In the know

Our favourite rooms
Chez René has an entire wall decorated in a bold black- and-white flock paper – the heavy green-and-red-striped curtains should clash, but somehow work. The bathroom is kitted out in jet tiles and has a powerful rain shower. La Chambre Mauve, in the eaves, has a feminine palette of amethyst and lavender, but chunky wooden beams redress the balance.
Packing tips
Linens and deck shoes for that ‘I’ve-just-stepped-off-my-yacht’ look; a notebook to jot down recipe ideas after visiting the markets; a waterproof jacket to protect against Normandy showers.
Also
Head to the garden for the folly, which has been lovingly restored with warm, vibrant colours, and has a Moroccan feel.

Historic Honfleur

The main building, No.44, is the heart of the hotel, with five bedrooms, a sociable salon and a cosy breakfast room, and No.42, next door, boasts three stylish apartments.

Food & drink

Hotel restaurant
There’s no restaurant, but there’s a clutch of eateries on your doorstep. Between 9am and 10.30am each morning, a selection of fresh breads, jellies and pastries from Honfleur's finest bakers is served up in the original kitchen. On market day, expect local butter, cheeses and fruit juices, and during winter, the wood-burning stove will keep you cosy.
Dress code
Nautical chic: a Breton top or ink-blue shirt, teamed with blue jeans and nonchalant white plimsoles.
Top table
At breakfast time, grab a place around the communal kitchen table.
Hotel bar
No bar, but you can sip some cider, champagne or other hot or cold tipple upon request, for an additional fee. Linger over your drink in either the cosy salon or in the comfort of your apartment.
