- Room 417 – oddly numbered, given the hotel only has 68 – is on the top floor and, because there are no neighbouring rooms, you can enjoy the rooftop views in uninterruptible privacy. Room 414 has a four-poster canopy bed and an alcove lined with black and white Missoni cushions that’s perfect for wallowing away an afternoon with a good book.

Built in 1899 by the designer of the entrance to Tivoli, Avenue Hotel has been radically reinvented as a showcase of Danish design, with Missoni fabrics adding refreshing pops of colour, a pewter-topped leather-lined bar adding sparkle to the cosy lounge, and original works from Denmark’s famous photographers displayed throughout.
