Mr & Mrs Smith have a trip to this Caribbean boutique hotel in the diary, and just as soon as they're back from their tropical travels, a full account of their stay in Barbados will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here’s a postcard from this quirky beach escape…
Life is hardly littered with reasons to trust Michael Winner, but you can safely assume he knows a good meal when he tastes one. He’s dubbed the Lone Star’s restaurant ‘the Ivy of the Caribbean’ and, judging by the A-list clientele you regularly spot sipping rum sours at the bar, he’s not alone in the opinion.
This one-time petrol station has much more to offer than finessed world cuisine and a celebrity cast list, however; its four impeccably appointed suites offer a brand of luxury Caribbean accommodation with a refreshingly personal touch and a quirky designer eye. Mixing SoBe beach-shack looks with local Bajan furnishings, Italian pieces and touches of Starck, this Barbados hotel sustains a smart palette of blue, white and mahogany throughout. There are playful touches, too: huge gilt silver mirrors lean against palm trees on the talc-white beach, waiters and waitresses flit around the restaurant floor in mechanics’ overalls – a throwback to the hotel’s garage roots.
