Local restaurants
Local favourite Yum Yum's Eatery (+61 (0)2 4360 2999; www.yumyumeatery.com.au), at 60 Araluen Drive in Hardy's Bay, has gentle water views and a smart, simple menu. A great place to slum it after the foodie delights back up the hill. Try beer-battered barramundi or king prawn linguini. Nearby The Fat Goose Restaurant & Bistro at Hardy's Bay RSL, 14 Heath Road (+61 (0)2 4360 2345; www.thefatgoose.com.au), serves everything from burgers to seafood or kangaroo.

Worth getting out of bed for
If only to justify further indulgence from the Manfredi kitchen, any extended stay at Bells is the better for a fossick around Bouddi National Park or any of the nine local beaches. Complimentary bush-walking maps are provided on check-in and, in case you can't live without cured ham and sun-dried tomatoes for more than a few hours, picnic hampers or backpacks can also be arranged. For the more adventurous, swim or surf between the flags at Killcare Beach, or indulge those phobias at the Australian Reptile Park. All activities can be undertaken solo or with a guide. The really hardy can charter yachts, watch whales or go horseback riding in nearby Glenworth Valley.
