Food and drink at Matangi Private Island Resort

  • Hotel restaurant

At the spacious, poolside Vale-Ni-Kana dining bure, Pacific Rim-inspired feasting spans seafood, fish curry and kokoda (Fijian ceviche), with smart use of local ingredients such as home-grown fruit and vegetables. As well as more formal tables undercover in the circular space, there's a hanging day-bed by the water for snacking alfresco.

  • Top table Pick a table by the pool or nearest the ocean for dazzling sea views. For extra romance, there's an intimate private dining deck for two near the ocean.

In the know

Our favourite rooms

Oceanview Bures have vistas of the sea, but Beachfront Bures are nearer the shore (number 10 is the most private, furthest from the dining area). For leafy seclusion and arboreal romance, we love the three Treehouses, which boast an open-air spa bath on the deck as well as the standard outdoor lava-rock showers. There's also a family-friendly Two-bedroom Bure, although only kids aged 16 or over are allowed.

Packing tips

Insect spray, a flashlight, beach towels and a hammock are all provided, but pack an array of swimwear, a kaftan or a sarong for chilling out in style.

Also

Make time for a massage in the light and airy seaside spa, with soothing, white treatment rooms and an over-water relaxation deck. Loved-up couples should also book a private picnic at the island's Horseshoe Bay, a tiny beach with a blue lagoon that's tailormade for honeymooners.
