Philip Treacy
Marvellous milliner
If hats were a country, then Philip would be royalty. As a child in the west of Ireland, he was obsessed with his mother's sewing machine, and eventually studied for an MA in fashion design at the Royal College of Art. He went on to design hats for Lagerfeld at Chanel, Gianni Versace, Valentino and Alexander McQueen, winning five British Fashion Designer of the Year awards in the process. He was design director for the interiors of hotel The G in Galway.
